YIKES !! Well, I'm glad you went in there and got it done ! Good deal . 
That 09 G-5 is pretty darn good bike over all I think. If it was a C-5 that bolt would have done some damage. And it boggles my mind that RE did not pick up on this , or chose to disregard it in favor of a different looking left side cover. Not to mention a reverse thread ! 
Form should follow function. Check it once a season I say Swamp, to be safe.
